The only time of the year where RAW and SmackDown do battle!
How many times have we heard this in the 5 week build-up to this year’s Survivor Series? And lest we forget that it has only been 5 weeks since RAW’s TLC PPV with SmackDown invading on the very next night, declaring #undersiege - God WWE love a hashtag!
Sure it was out of the blue (ha puns!) and with little to no build, but who cares? This has been the best TV WWE has consistently put out in months - there hasn’t been a RAW or SmackDown that has been bad or even average!
And here we are! Survivor Series is officially this Sunday and what a ride we’ve had in the build: Titles changing hands, Jinder finally hindered, releases, Twitter feuds, invasions from both sides, announcement of Champion vs. Champion matches throughout the card, returns and fantastic promos - I’m out of breath just thinking about it!
So without further ado, it’s time to predict who is going to win what matches when it comes to the battleground of RAW vs. SmackDown, let’s predict our winners!
Pre-Show - Enzo Amore (c) vs. Kalisto
So I think I’m right in believing that no-one cares a jot about this match right? Even the WWE as I suppose this must be the reason it has been bumped to the pre-show!
This feud has been uninspired and is hampered by Kalisto having no skill on the mic whatsoever, and Enzo having absolutely no talent in the ring whatsoever - not a great mix!
I’m going with ENZO AMORE to win this one as he brings more viewers in to the ailing 205 Live product than Kalisto does, and Amore just seems to do more to elevate the belt.
Though in truth, these two aren’t a patch on Neville, or any of the other Cruiserweights on the show if truth be told, I mean, the best thing to come out of this feud is Drew Gulak - the man is an absolute treasure!
Match #1 - The Miz vs. Baron Corbin
If I’m being brutally honest, of all the matches on this, let’s face it, stellar card, this is the one I’m probably least looking forward to.
The build just hasn’t been there for me, aside from Miz delivering some of his trademark outstanding promos (the one in social media where he used the ‘f’ word was especially juicy) there has been nothing! That’s not the competitors fault, they haven’t had the opportunity really - Baron has been embroiled in a luke-warm feud with the seemingly revitalised Sin Cara, whilst The Miz has had a very grumpy Braun Strowman understandably occupying the majority of his time.
Even so, I’m going for THE MIZ, for no other reason than I like him more than Baron Corbin! Additionally, with the lack of build, there seems to be less riding on this match, so it doesn’t really matter who eats the pin here!
Match #2 - The Bar vs. The Usos
Some people aired serious grievances that The Shield dropped the Tag Team titles in Manchester, meaning that Seth and Dean would no longer be facing The Usos.
To begin with, the way The Shield dropped the straps was in no way damaging to them - a surprise Brogue Kick after distraction from The New Day - but it has led to a fantasy bookers dream in all three members of The Shield against The New Day, which in itself is going to be simply fantastic, but also we now have The Bar and The Usos, arguably the two most over and in form teams in the WWE at the moment! These two teams are going to create absolute magic together there is no doubt about that, and I’ve genuinley puzzled about who to predict for this one, but I’ve gone for THE BAR, but if it is The Usos who walk away victorious, I can’t say I’ll be disappointed!
Match #3 - Team RAW [Alicia Fox, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Bayley & Asuka] vs. Team SmackDown Live [Becky Lynch, Carmella, Tamina Snuka & Naomi]
Looking at it at face value, unless the surprise 5th member of the SmackDown Women’s Team turns out to be Hela, The Goddess of Death, then there is not a chance in the entire world that they walk out of this match as the victors!
Why? Asuka that’s why!
They are not handing the Empress of Tomorrow her first loss on WWE TV as part of a 5-on-5 Elimination Match. Asuka’s first loss is something that needs to be saved as a huge wrestling moment and I just don’t see it happening here.
Of course that does mean Asuka is the lone survivor which means that I am going for TEAM RAW.
Match #4 - Alexa Bliss vs. Charlotte Flair
Goddess vs. The Queen! It’s got a much better ring to it than Goddess vs. Crazy Cat Lady doesn’t it!
I mean if you go off hierarchy alone, Goddess will beat Queen every time, but not this time for me!
I’m going for CHARLOTTE FLAIR to win this for several reasons: firstly, SmackDown ain’t winning many other of the matches if you look at the card! Secondly, after the feel-good moment of Ric coming out to celebrate with Charlotte on Tuesday, it would be a shame for her to lose here. Thirdly, a heavily rumomoured match-up between Charlotte and Ronda Rousey may be taking place at WrestleMania next year and therefore Charlotte needs all the momentum heading into that.
Bliss is fantastic and I have no doubt that she will be the next big thing in the women’s division, but this? This is Charlotte’s time!
Match #5 - The Shield vs. The New Day
I love The New Day, they have been reinvigorated since their move from RAW to SmackDown during the Superstar Shake-up and come into this match on the back of a feud of the year candidate against The Usos.
So I’m going for THE SHIELD! I don’t want to be disrespectful to The New Day by saying that this is the absolute lock of the night, but if we look at it, you’ve got to say it is!
The WWE were robbed of the chance to debut the Shield once more at TLC a month ago when Roman succumbed to the mumps virus, but they have dropped on here with this history-making match-up!
The re-debut of The Shield? There is no way they lose this!
Match #6 - Team RAW [Kurt Angle, Triple H, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe & Finn Balor] vs. Team SmackDown Live [Shane McMahon, Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, John Cena & Shinsuke Nakamura]
It’s funny, if you would have asked me before the go home shows for each show, I’d have said Team RAW were absolutely nailed on here. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would come in and cost SmackDown the match, leading to an angle further down the line.
Now however, it has to be TEAM SMACKDOWN. The amount of dissent they are currently planting in the RAW team just leads me to believe that the entire team is going to fall apart! You have Samoa Joe and Finn Balor, who are on the team because they fought each other viciously, after which Angle stated that it was that intensity that he wanted in this match - hardly a sound recruiting policy Kurt!
Aside from that however, we have the debacle involving Angle/HHH/Jordan to consider! The Game obviously replaced Jordan at the end of RAW to a huge pop from the crowd (excellent work getting him over by the way WWE) which is obviously leading to a story going forward between Kurt Angle and HHH, do you think either are going to be able to keep it together for the entirety of this match? Do you honestly think this angle (pardon the pun) would be happening if Jason Jordan wasn’t still somehow going to be involved somehow? Maybe with a heel turn where he turns on Daddy costing RAW the match?
It seems set up for SmackDown, and looking at the card, it’s a good job because they need to pick up wins from somewhere!
Match #7 - Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles
It’s almost a shame that Jinder dropped the title, I was quite looking forward to seeing The Singh Brothers been launched across the arena like empty plastic bags by The Beast.
Of course this match up between Styles and Lesnar is infinitely more appealing, and has driven up interest in this PPV - and let’s face it, in the WWE Championship.
It’s effectively a free pass for either champion to lose as there is nothing on the line here, but WWE are not going to allow LESNAR to lose here; he’s not losing until WrestleMania 34 against Roman Reigns, making Roman look strong.
The best we can hope for realistically, is that Styles is allowed to showcase just how good he is by Brock Lesnar, let’s not forget that this is indeed a Dream Match and I only hope that Brock realises this and doesn’t run over Styles in the way he ran over (and consequently ruined the matches with) Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman.
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the most stacked card since WrestleMania, and the PPV that many are touting as a potential best ever Survivor Series is almost here and just to summarise here are my predictions: AMORE, MIZ, THE BAR, TEAM RAW WOMENS, CHARLOTTE FLAIR, THE SHIELD, TEAM SMACKDOWN MENS, BROCK LESNAR.
Just as an added prediction, the first elimination in each match is going to be ALICIA FOX and BOBBY ROODE!
I truly cannot wait for this PPV, and it must be the first time - maybe ever? - where I have been actively looking forward to a WWE PPV more than the preceding NXT Takeover Show, which is certainly saying something as War Games looks equally fun. Let’s just hope, with all the hype it has been given, that WWE can still pull it off!
